Federal & State Grants

Federal Pell Grant

  • Federally funded student gift aid that does not need to be repaid.
  • Awarded to undergraduate students who have high financial need who are working on their first bachelor's degree.
  • Awarded based on expected family contribution and number of credits the student has scheduled.
  • May be awarded to students who are less than half-time (six credits).
  • The maximum fall-spring-summer award (for the 2015-16 academic year) is $5,775 for the academic year. The maximum per semester is $2,888.
  • Students who complete the FAFSA are automatically considered for the grant.
  • Students must meet federal student aid eligibility requirements.

Pennsylvania State Grant

  • State-funded gift aid awarded by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) to undergraduate Pennsylvania residents who demonstrate high financial need.
  • The Pennsylvania State Grant is awarded to undergraduate students who are residents of Pennsylvania. Deadline date for FAFSA application is May 1. Currently the Pennsylvania State Grant program does not consider students enrolled in Degree Completion to be full-time. Therefore awards are usually 50% less than the normal full-time award. Also, any modules dropped within a degree completion term may affect eligibility for the State Grant.
  • Maximum full-time award beginning with the 2014-15 academic year is $3,670 per year. Maximum half-time award is $1,835 per year.
  • Students who submit their FAFSA information to PHEAA by May 1 are automatically considered for the grant.
  • Students must meet federal student aid eligibility requirements.
  • Students enrolled in the online program are not eligible.

Note: If you choose to apply for a Summer Pennsylvania State Grant, it will be counted towards your maximum semesters of eligibility.
