Program Requirements

To complete the MA in Counseling in either Marriage and Family Counseling or in Mental Health Counseling, the student must complete 48 credits. An additional 12 credits are required for licensure in Pennsylvania. The program credits are distributed in three areas; Professional Core (27), Program Courses (15), and the prograam capstone (6). Students should consult with their advisor regarding course selection.

Capstone Project Option (6 Credits) 

One of the following two Capstone options must be chosen:

Option 1 – The capstone choice of a 6-credit Research Thesis is for the students who aspire to greater proficiency in writing and anticipates doctoral level work that would involve a doctoral dissertation such as a PhD program. Consult your advisor and the MACP Handbook to learn more about this option.

Option 2 – The capstone choice of two electives will prepare the student as an effective counseling practitioner. Consult your advisor and the curriculum sheet to learn more about this option.
