Counseling and Social Work

[ Objectives | Programs ]

The Counseling and Social Work Department is designed to encourage students to understand, evaluate, and practice counseling theory and methods from a biblical perspective.

Students who graduate from the Department are able to minister in Christian counseling centers, church counseling ministries, crisis pregnancy centers, foster care agencies, crisis hot-line services, rescue missions, and psychiatric care units.

Objectives

Students who complete the Biblical Counseling program will be able to:

  1. Understand the character and responsibility of the person called to a biblical counseling ministry.
  2. Understand the various theories and methods of counseling and critically evaluate them from a biblical perspective.
  3. Understand the distinctive problems facing various sociological groupings and the solutions offered by the Bible.
  4. Understand and effectively utilize essential research methods and testing instruments in counseling.
  5. Effectively utilize selected methods of counseling in a ministry context that are biblically based.

Programs

The specific programs in the Counseling and Social Work department are:

  • Professional Counseling
  • Social Work
  • School Counseling - An undergraduate and graduate degree in only 5 years. In this program you will be able to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible, a Master of Education degree, and PA state certification in a five-year program. This is accomplished by introducing graduate level courses in the junior and senior years of the undergraduate program. The fifth year would consist of all graduate-level courses.
