Counseling and Social Work

The Counseling and Social Work Department is designed to encourage students to understand, evaluate, and practice counseling theory and methods from a biblical perspective.
Students who graduate from the Department are able to minister in Christian counseling centers, church counseling ministries, crisis pregnancy centers, foster care agencies, crisis hot-line services, rescue missions, and psychiatric care units.
Objectives
Students who complete the Biblical Counseling program will be able to:
- Understand the character and responsibility of the person called to a biblical counseling ministry.
- Understand the various theories and methods of counseling and critically evaluate them from a biblical perspective.
- Understand the distinctive problems facing various sociological groupings and the solutions offered by the Bible.
- Understand and effectively utilize essential research methods and testing instruments in counseling.
- Effectively utilize selected methods of counseling in a ministry context that are biblically based.
Programs
The specific programs in the Counseling and Social Work department are:
- Professional Counseling
- Social Work
- School Counseling - An undergraduate and graduate degree in only 5 years. In this program you will be able to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible, a Master of Education degree, and PA state certification in a five-year program. This is accomplished by introducing graduate level courses in the junior and senior years of the undergraduate program. The fifth year would consist of all graduate-level courses.
