Spain - Elijah Tour

Ministry Opportunities

In May, the LBC Chorale will be traveling to Spain to premier Mendelssohn’s Spain“Elijah” in Spanish. Our choir and orchestra from Lancaster Bible College will join other singers and musicians from the U.S. and Spain to create a powerful evangelistic music ministry team.

Sixty Spanish churches from several different regions are organizing this evangelistic concert series that forms a part of a national evangelistic strategy in 2008 to proclaim the Gospel through public cultural performances. Mendelssohn’s Elijah is a great tool—presented for the first-time-ever in Spanish, pointing out the folly of trusting in man’s devices and the wisdom of trusting only in the Lord.

Spain is a totally un-reached country with only about 0.76% of the population claiming to be believers.  True, it is a Catholic country.  However, Spain never received the influence of the Reformation and still today, the Spanish Catholic church denies their people access to the Bible.  So, in spite of strong “Christian” traditions, Spain is still a “pre-Gospel” country.  In fact, the regions where we will perform have an even smaller percentage of believers (about 0.3%-less than one half of one percent).  To put this into perspective, Iraq has about four times more believers!  What a great opportunity to share Christ with the lost.

The team will perform in public auditoriums and national television of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” in Spanish, combining the voices and instruments of the chorale and orchestra, with Spanish singers and musicians. The performances are organized in Spain by local churches in Salamanca, Leon and Galicia.
