Job Summary:

This position exists for the purpose of teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, supervising students in field experiences, and directing the graduate education programs.

Education and Experience

  • A Doctoral degree in education, preferred, although a Master’s degree with a desire to pursue a doctorate will be accepted
  • Teacher certification in an area such as early childhood, elementary, or secondary
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 classroom or similar experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in administration/leadership
  • A positive reputation as an educator and communicator
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • A well-articulated Christian philosophy of education

Special Skills

  • An ability to design instruction and analyze instructional design created and executed by others
  • An ability to plan and execute learning activities as models for students to observe
  • Interpersonal skills to facilitate the academic advising responsibilities
  • A personal interest in the spiritual formation and discipleship of students
  • Proficiency with word processing, general computer skills, and LBC | Capital’s instructional technologies (i.e., Learning Management System, Video Conferencing, etc.)
  • An ability to work with colleagues on corporate projects
  • The observation and evaluation of the teacher candidate during field placements
  • Proficient as a communicator in written and oral formats
  • An ability to manage details without losing the “big picture”

Teaching Job Tasks

  • Required annual teaching load is 18 credits; annual administrative load is 6 credits
  • Teach courses as assigned at the undergraduate, adult education, and/or graduate level in face-to-face, blended, and online format which may require teaching during the day, evening, and/or weekend
  • Design assessments to measure student learning and programmatic progress
  • Model and teach biblical integration in classes and interactions
  • Supervise teacher candidates in field experiences and evaluate these students using the required forms
  • Participate in Education department activities including but not limited to program reviews, curricular design, and regular meetings.
  • Attend chapel regularly
  • Serve as an academic advisor for students
  • Offer office hours for students and faculty consultation and support
  • Other duties as assigned

Administrative Job Tasks:

  • Advance the graduate education programs consistent with the department and LBC’s mission and vision including the expansion of academic programming
  • Assist the Enrollment Service Department in the recruitment of students
  • Plan course offerings, catalogs, website information, and promotional material in conjunction with the Registrar, Provost Office, and Marketing
  • Review graduate handbooks regularly
  • Coordinate with the field placement coordinator in planning student field placement experiences
  • Coordinate with the certification officer in the review of student transcripts
  • Recruit and recommend the hiring of departmental faculty to the education department chair, as needed
  • Observe faculty as directed by the department chair
  • Participate in one-on-one meetings with the department chair
  • Oversee graduate curriculum development
  • Complete programmatic reviews for external agencies (PDE and ACSI)
  • Conduct regular outcomes and course assessment
