Job Description:

The position exists for the purpose of teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, primarily in the area of Special Education, and supervising students in field experiences.

Candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • A Doctoral degree in education with post-baccalaureate coursework in Special Education
  • Teacher certification as an elementary or early childhood educator and special education certification
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a teacher in a special education classroom or similar experience
  • A positive reputation as an educator and communicator
  • A well-articulated Christian philosophy of education

Candidates will need to possess the following skills:

  • An ability to design instruction and analyze instructional design created and executed by others
  • An expertise in developing and implementing IEPs, GIEPs, and 504 plans
  • The observation and evaluation of the teacher candidate during field placements
  • An ability to work with colleagues on corporate projects
  • Proficient as a communicator in written and oral formats
  • Proficiency with general computer skills
  • An ability to manage details without losing the “big picture”

Candidates will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Administer the Special Education program
  • Teach special education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels during the fall, spring, and summer semesters
  • Design assessments to measure student learning and programmatic progress
  • Supervise teacher candidates in field experiences such as practicum and student teaching and evaluate these students using the required forms
  • Participate in Education department activities including but not limited to program reviews, curricular design, and regular meetings
  • Serve as an academic advisor for students
  • Offer office hours for students and faculty consultation and support
