Staff Writer, Editor, & Social Media Manager

Full-time, Professional Staff
Location: Lancaster, PA

The ideal candidate for this position is a highly-skilled writer/editor for print, social media, and the college website. Responsibilities include magazine copywriting and editing, strategic message development and positioning, social media content creation and scheduling, and writing content for lbc.edu. This position reports to the Director of Marketing Communications but will also engage with Advancement, Admissions & Academics at all locations.

Candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience creating and managing organic and paid social media content
  • A strong grasp of the English language
  • Must provide writing samples
  • Industry experience in higher education a plus
  • Creativity, innovation and excitement about leveraging the potential of visuals and the written word to promote an educational institution
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work to assist several supervisors and departments at once.
  • Quick, analytical thinker
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts simply through word, photos and video

Candidates will need to possess the following skills:

  • How to create and distribute platform-appropriate content on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter
  • Highly-skilled at writing short-form copy, headlines, email subject lines, ad copy, radio scripts, blogs and feature articles
  • A keen interest in storytelling
  • Experience with project management
  • A good eye for visuals a plus
  • Experience in creating targeted email blasts
  • A working knowledge of SEO and how it impacts writing online
  • An interest in internet trends and emerging social media platforms

Candidates will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Working with freelance writers, photographers and proofreaders to produce the college magazine, the Echo (3 issues per year at about 50 pages each)
  • Writing approximately 70% of Echo magazine content
  • Proofreading and editing
  • Working with marketing and other internal departments to provide ad copy
  • Interviewing story subjects
  • Creating and distributing organic social media content daily
  • Responding appropriately to inquiries and requests for information on social media
  • Monitoring print and social media channels
  • Creating custom blog posts with headlines that are optimized for clicks
  • Editing and approving content for social media ads
  • Working with agencies, vendors to provide ad copy
  • Writing and distributing press releases
  • Writing radio scripts

Assist in other duties whenever called upon as needed for the good and welfare of the total College ministry.
