Dr. Paul Thorlakson

Paul Thorlakson received his early musical training from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto graduating with an Associate Degree from that institution. Later, he graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music in Performance. During his graduate studies (Master of Church Music and Doctor of Musical Arts) at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY he received many awards including the Certificate in Performance and an award for Pedagogy. He has continued post graduate studies at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.

Dr. Thorlakson has enjoyed a varied piano performance career as a recitalist, soloist with orchestra, chamber musician, and accompanist throughout North America in venues from Christian conference centers to major concert halls. He has served a number of churches in full time and part time music ministry positions.

Dr. Thorlakson’s academic career has taken him from Simpson University in Redding, CA to Redeemer University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and now to Lancaster Bible College. At both Simpson and Redeemer, in addition to his teaching load as a piano, theory, and music ministry professor, he served as department chair. At both institutions he conducted the college symphony orchestra.

He is a Senior Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto and actively sought adjudicator for Festivals and Competitions.

Paul is married to Sharon and has three adult daughters, Rachel, Aubrey, and Emily and makes his home in Lancaster, PA.
