I grew up in a “good” but not Christian home. I heard about Christ now and then from friends in high school but it was not until my Senior year in High school that God caught my attention through a young lady at a store where we both worked. She was a passionate Christian and found ways to both be an excellent employee and share the Gospel with other employees such as myself. Largely through her efforts I accepted Christ as my Savior just two months before my 18th birthday.
I had been accepted for college to pursue a degree in Accounting but God immediately redirected me to enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard. I was glad to do so although puzzled as to that direction at the time. During 4 1/2 years in the Coast Guard I entered into a wrestling match with the Lord over what to do next. I planned to leave the USCG and go back to that Accounting degree but God was telling me that I should go to Bible college instead. I was not thrilled with the plan and still remember a week spent debating with God about it, offering compromises. Needless to say, He won and I chose His direction, not mine. And during my time in the USCG I married that young lady mentioned in the first paragraph and we’ve had 45 wonderful years together. We have two children, our daughter (age 43) teaches at the University College Dublin in Dublin Ireland and is married to an Irish lad. Our son (age 39) lives in Virginia where he is working on a Navy base in an emergency management role.
After the USCG I found myself at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, then completed my undergraduate work at Columbia Bible College in South Carolina. From there I went to Westminister Theological Seminary to complete my Master’s work. Out of seminary I ended up with Good News Jail & Prison Ministry to start a new Prison Chaplaincy in York, PA. While in full-time ministry I worked on a second master’s degree and eventually ended up with a D.Min. from Trinity Theological Seminary.
I left the Chaplaincy in 1989 and found myself involved in biblical counseling with Christian Counseling Associates. I stayed in counseling until a few years ago, working with CCA as counselor and Executive Director, providing counseling support to Christar mission from 1996-2018, and teaching biblical counseling overseas to national leaders. I’ve also helped a number of nonprofits to do their initial startup work and from 2004-2019 was the financial officer for a small Christian ministry, GTI Hope. I’ve been an Adjunct Professor at Lancaster Bible College since 1991 teaching in various programs along the way, now undergraduate theology classes.
Along the way, I’ve also assisted my wife with Bird Refuge of York, which rehabilitates injured and orphaned wild birds to return them to the wild. I enjoy reading (numerous genres from fantasy to military history to Old Testament studies to of course Theology) and all of my family l enjoy hiking (hence I also am the LBC Hiking Experience Club Advisor which I started in 2019).
