As of the April 23 Board of Trustees vote, Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary and Graduate School announces its sixth president in the college’s 85-year history. Dr. Ben Gutierrez enjoyed unanimous support to assume the lead role in this dynamic institution of more than 2,220 students with locations in four states and Uganda. Dr. Gutierrez joins LBC from his role as an extensively published Professor of Religion at Liberty University. He has served numerous positions at Liberty University including Co-Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs where he served the President as an Executive Leadership Member and shared responsibility to supervise an academic team of two Vice Provosts, three Associate Vice Provosts, 19 Academic Deans and Executive Directors, 500 residential faculty, 2,000 global online faculty, and over 200 academic staff. He holds a PhD from Regent University, and a Master of Arts in Religion and Master in Divinity from Liberty University.
“Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School has always embraced an entrepreneurial spirit with regard to how education can and should be delivered in order to best meet the needs of the student,” as Dr. Gutierrez explained his rationale for coming to LBC | Capital. “Today, LBC | Capital is postured to become an industry leader in higher education with creative modes of delivery along with increasing instructional quality while reducing educational costs for the students.”
LBC Board Chair Dr. Philip Clemens notes, “The movement of God was evident in our search, and we as a Board of Trustees could not be more pleased with Dr. Gutierrez taking the helm for this next season of LBC | Capital.”
As to Dr. Gutierrez’s thoughts on the region, “We love Lancaster County! We love the positive family environment and we love knowing that some families in this community have lived here for generations. My family and I cannot wait to put down roots in this wonderful community. From the rich heritage of the historic downtown to the thriving businesses, restaurants, and community activities; from the spirit of hospitality and friendship to the unparalleled work ethic exhibited by all the members of this community, the beauty and diversity of Lancaster County completes the students’ college experience at LBC | Capital.”
Succeeding Dr. Peter W. Teague, the third longest tenured president in the Commonwealth among private institutions of higher education, Dr. Gutierrez officially begins his duties August 1, 2019. Dr. Teague offered, “We asked many times as a college community that God would make crystal clear His choice for our next president, believing in faith, and God has once again demonstrated His faithfulness in answering that prayer. It is my heart’s desire to provide all the support and encouragement that I possibly can to Dr. Gutierrez.”
Gutierrez replied, “Dr. Teague is one of the finest leaders in higher education and Christian men I have ever known. All the progress realized in the next 20 years will only be possible because of the solid foundation Dr. Teague has laid these past 20 years. I am encouraged that Dr. Teague has agreed to serve Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School as President Emeritus and LBC Ambassador. I will not hesitate to seek his advice and counsel on a regular basis, believing I will be a better leader for having Dr. Teague as an invaluable resource.
Inauguration and corresponding press event details will be forthcoming for later this fall.

The Executive Committee and the full Board of Trustees are progressing steadily through the remaining steps required for the formal appointment and naming of the next President including all approvals, agreements, offer to/acceptance by the candidate and appropriate notices necessary by the candidate.
No date is available at this time, but a formal announcement by LBC | Capital is anticipated near the beginning of May.
We thank all who have and continue to pray for this most important step in the advancement of LBC | Capital.

The Presidential Search Committee and its search consultant, The Dingman Company, have been actively working through the end of 2018 to prepare an Opportunity Profile and gather a candidate pool though postings, nominations and referrals. The Presidential Search Committee members, the Opportunity Profile and other information can all be found on the Presidential Search web page at LBC.edu. Many friends of LBC have shared their suggestions, nominations and pledges of prayer support for which the Presidential Search Committee is most grateful.
The pool of 64 names considered so far is a diverse group as to background, experience, geographic location, ethnicity and gender. The pool includes: 3 women; 9 African Americans; 3 Hispanics; 1 Korean American; one international; and several internal. The pool shares a unity of demonstrated love of our Lord with backgrounds in academia, college administration (including sitting presidents); business leaders and pastors. The Dingman Company, which last year completed a successful search for the new president at Moody Bible Institute, is pleased with the strength of the pool in the LBC Search.
The Presidential Search process is on track to deliver its recommendation to the Board of Trustees in early April. Next steps include narrowing the pool to vetted semifinalists and then to finalist that will be interviewed in person by the Presidential Search Committee. No prediction on a date for announcing the next president is possible due the unpredictable nature of approval – acceptance – contracting and necessary notifications.
To all with interest in and that share a love for Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School, the Presidential Search Committee is grateful for your continued prayers and supportive suggestions.

On August 21, 2018, President Teague announced his retirement from Lancaster Bible College and will complete his 20-year presidency August 1, 2019. In keeping with the Presidential Transition Plan refined by the Board of Trustees over the past two years, a 12-person Presidential Search Committee was appointed, chaired by myself with representation from Board, Corporation, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The Presidential Search Committee has acted in concert with the Executive Committee of the Board to retain a professional consulting firm, The Dingman Company, to conduct the search for our next president. The firm will advertise and recruit this fall and plans to begin screening candidates after the first of the year. The goal of the Presidential Search Committee is to narrow the candidate pool, conduct interviews, and make a final recommendation to the Board of Trustees in the spring of 2019.
Significant in this process are the voices of our students, parents, faculty and staff members, alumni and friends of LBC|Capital. We invite you to share suggestions for the search, ask questions, offer thoughts about qualities that are important in our next president and, if appropriate, nominate candidates for consideration via email at PresidentialSearch@lbc.edu.
Please continue to pray for the Presidential Search Committee and those involved in this process. Selecting the sixth president of LBC | Capital is one of the most critical junctures of our 85-year history and we seek God’s wisdom and direction each step of the way.
