Kendra Bigley, Adjunct Professor in the Music, Worship & Performing Arts Department, Director of Piano Studies for many years until fall 2020 and Staff Pianist Director until fall 2021, was accepted to the M.Mus. degree program in Collaborative Piano/Opera Coaching at Temple University. She was awarded both a merit scholarship and an assistantship to work with the mainstage opera productions. She will continue to teach in the MWPA department at LBC | Capital while regularly commuting by train to Philadelphia.
Dr. Douglas Bozung, Adjunct Professor in the Bible & Theology Department, presented a survey and critique of the New Perspective on Paul on the Word of Life Global Bible Institute podcast, facilitated by Dr. Paul Weaver, Academic Dean. The two 40-minute podcasts can be accessed at learn.wol.org/podcast.
Dr. Malcom Byrd, Adjunct Professor in the Church & Ministry Leadership Department, was appointed to the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on African American Affairs. He was also recognized and invited to the White House as a result of his work in furtherance of Vaccination Equity in Philadelphia.
Dr. Ling Dinse, Assistant Professor in the Counseling & Social Work Department, co-published the article, “Barriers to Exiting and Factors Contributing to the Cycle of Enter/Exit/Re-entering Commercial Sex Work,” in the summer edition of the Journal of Social Work & Christianity. Her co-author was Dr. Karen Rice of Millersville University. Additionally, Dr. Dinse’s collaborative project with several LBC | Capital students was also accepted by Journal of Social Work & Christianity for summer 2022 publication. “Perception of Mental Health on Christian College Campuses: A Case Study” was written by LBC | Capital Social Work graduates Summer Weaver (’20), Victoria Gehman (’20), Nancy Esh (’20) and Valerie (Acito ’20) Koeshartono for a research class with data collected from the LBC | Capital student body in collaboration with Student Affairs.
Anthony Johnson, Adjunct Professor in the Arts & Sciences Department, published his seventh book on social justice, “A War On All Fronts Revisited: 2005-2020” in March 2021. The book is the follow-up to his 2005 publication, “A War On All Fronts.”
David Lingham, Adjunct Professor in the Bible & Theology Department and Enrollment & Recruitment Manager for LBC | Capital – Philadelphia, has been accepted into the Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership program at Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School.
Dr. Sophia Ogunlana (’06), Clinical Mental Health Program Director for LBC | Capital – Washington, D.C., presented at the American Association of Behavioral and Social Sciences virtual conference in June 2021 on “What do you need? Assessing the needs of graduate students in a counselor-in-training program before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Additionally, Dr. Ogunlana and Dr. Kevin Jackson, Adjunct Professor in the Counseling & Social Work Department, will present at the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision conference on “The intersectionality of race sexuality and spirituality of Christian counselors-in-training competence in serving the LGBTQ+ community” in Atlanta in October 2021.
In July, Dr. Tom Randolph, Assistant Professor in the Health & Physical Education Department, successfully defended his dissertation focusing on the barriers and obstacles deterring women from choosing a sport coaching profession.
A short story titled “Adept” by Dr. Geoffrey Reiter, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Literature in the Arts & Sciences Department, received Honorable Mention at the Writers of the Future Contest for the second quarter of 2021. Additionally, three of his poems—“What if Atlantis…?” “Igerna, Alone in Waning Moonlight” and “Eternal Night”—were published in the winter 2021 volume of the journal Spectral Realms. He also contributed a book chapter, “Through the Ancient Wood: Envisioning Apophatic Mysticism in ‘A Fragment of Life’” to “Critical Essays on Arthur Machen” edited by Antonio Sanna (Lexington Books, 2021, pages 225-40). Lastly, Reiter published “Our Triune Creations” on the Poeima Visual Arts Blog in May 2021.
Dr. Ed Scheuerman, Intercultural Studies Program Director in the Church & Ministry Leadership Department, published his first book, “Knowing God to Make Him Known: Living out God’s Attributes Cross-Culturally.”
Thom Scott, Professor in the Communication & Media Arts Department, was featured in the BD Empower Webinar Series for non-profit organizations in June. His presentation, “Community Support: Rallying Supporters Around Your Cause,” was based on his decades of experience helping organizations increase public awareness, goodwill and backing. The series is hosted by Brewer Direct, an award-winning, non-profit marketing and fundraising agency located in Monrovia, California.
Dr. Tanya Cleveland Solomon, Site Director for LBC | Capital – Philadelphia and Assistant Professor in the Arts & Sciences Department, received a Certificate in Ascending Leadership from the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute (NELI) at Bryn Mawr College in April 2021. She also received a certificate for her participation in the Digital Workshop on Race in the Classroom held at LBC | Capital during the spring 2021 term.
Dr. Celeste Wynn (’21), Adjunct Professor in the Arts & Sciences Department, was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters from LBC | Capital in June 2021. Dr. Wynn retired as Writing Center Coordinator at LBC | Capital – Philadelphia on June 30, 2020.
