Yum! LBC Dining Additions Increase Student Satisfaction

by Lilly Rutkowski (’25)

It is an ongoing goal at Lancaster Bible College to enhance the overall student experience by not only listening to but also responding to students’ ideas. One of these areas is the college dining experience. Metz, LBC’s food service professionals, is committing to taking feedback to heart and making strides to continually improve food service on campus.

After all, students get to know personally the Metz staff who prepare and serve them breakfast, lunch and dinner. In fact, LBC’s Student Government Association and sports teams regularly show Metz employees their appreciation. For instance, each November, SGA leads a monetary collection among students so that each Metz employee is presented with a gift of gratefulness at the annual Thanksgiving lunch, a much-loved tradition campus-wide.

In the fall of 2024, Olewine Dining Commons saw these enhancements and additions from Metz based off survey results and feedback from students.

  • Rolled out Friday night wings every other week
  • Expanded fruit and salad bar
  • Presented additional drink options
  • Made the rice cooker available for all meals – rice bowls, anyone?
  • Introduced Indian tacos and cheesesteaks on a more regular basis
  • Offered a fresh nacho bar with cheeses, veggies and other toppings
  • Began offering made-to-order choices such as a popular stir fry station, Frito bar, quesadillas and noodle bowls

Currently, Metz is rolling out even more additions to the food experience, including a weekend dinner pizza station—with the daily pizza station always adding new options—and grilled chicken options. But some things stay the same, including LBC’s tradition of “Chicken Patty Wednesday.”

Beth Kachel, LBC’s Dean of Student Experience, shared her commitment to the continued improvement in the food service experience.

“We have completed food surveys and promoted the Metz feedback form, and we continue to receive feedback and incorporate these comments into the food experience for students,” Kachel said. “We are committed to student satisfaction as we live out our LBC Mission and Promise!”

Metz will continue listening to feedback as the company strives for excellence in the dining experience at LBC. Current LBC students with feedback, comments or ideas for Metz may complete the online survey to share their thoughts, or text Metz at 55744 and start their message with olewine, followed by their feedback.
