Holy Week leading up to Easter on April 20, 2025, will hold special significance on the Lancaster Bible College campus. To mark this meaningful time of remembrance and rejoicing, special events on April 7-10 will focus on celebrating the work of Christ in His death, resurrection and ascension, as well as what it means for Christians to say they are justified, sanctified and glorified by Christ.

These special Holy Week gatherings for LBC students and the college community were the vision of Student Government Association Chaplain Daniel Lefko (’25 & ’27), who helped plan the activities.

The special week will begin Monday evening, April 7, with “The Way of the Cross,” an event that will allow students to participate in the journey of Christ from His sentence to death to His burial in the tomb.

Then during chapel gatherings at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9, the college community will reflect on the justification and sanctification achieved for believers in Christ’s death and resurrection, ultimately considering why this matters today.

Wednesday evening will center on a hymn sing hosted by SGA at 7 p.m. in the Teague Learning Commons Room 401, with both pre-selected hymns and selections by request.

Lastly, at chapel at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, the gathering will celebrate the Great Vigil of Easter, a service to worship the risen Christ in gratitude for the glorified life He has promised.

See a Q&A with Daniel below about the vision for Holy Week and how LBC students are instrumental:

Q: How are LBC students involved in the Holy Week observance?

A: “Across musicians, readers and speakers, practically everyone serving will be an LBC student. The student worship team will play on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the student Chamber Singers led by LBC Adjunct Professor Floyd Rawleigh will sing for us on Thursday.”

Q: Who are the 2025 Holy Week chapel speakers?

A: “On Tuesday, Micah Jack (’25 & ’26) will be speaking on Romans 6:1-14. Micah is a Pastoral Ministry major seeking his master’s degree in Biblical Studies with a concentration in Apologetics. He has been heavily involved on campus since he first came to LBC and has a heart for the ministry of the Church.

“On Wednesday, LBC alumnus Josiah McClymont (’24) will be speaking on Colossians 3:1-4. Josiah graduated from LBC with a degree in Youth & Young Adult Ministry and has continued to serve in the life of the Church since graduation, also serving on a missions trip to Argentina for a number of months.

“On Thursday, I, Daniel Lefko, will speak on 1 Corinthians 15:50-58. I am a Pastoral Ministry major seeking my master’s in Biblical Studies. I have been involved on campus throughout my years and it has a privilege to help to plan Holy Week chapels this year.”

Q: What will be the focus of this year’s Holy Week at LBC?

A: “The chapels this year will be focusing on the justification, sanctification and glorification that Christ has given to us through His death and resurrection. On Tuesday, Micah will be helping us to consider why Jesus had to die on the cross, and what it means to say that the death of Jesus has given us justification. Furthermore, Micah will help us consider what it means for us to die to sin in light of the death of Christ.

“On Wednesday, Josiah will help us consider how Jesus’ resurrection helps us today. What does it mean to be alive to God, and what does it mean that He is sanctifying us? Josiah will help us see that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the reason we can be inwardly changed by the Holy Spirit to live like Jesus lived.

“Finally, on Thursday, I will help us to consider where all this is headed. In other words, what is the point of our justification and sanctification? The answer is in our glorification. I will seek to point us heavenward, to consider the goal of our Christian lives, which is to finally live with God forever as perfect human beings, with Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Q: Which key Scripture passages will be highlighted?

A: “Key passages include Romans 6:1-14, Colossians 3:1-4 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-58.”
