Journey Teams: Houston (3)

October 20, 2017

Is It Friday Already? When we arrived in Houston on Tuesday night, Friday felt like a long way off. We have experienced many different things over the past couple days. We've taken nails out of walls, cleaned up streets, and emptied out houses. And many people on our team are doing things they have never done before, like using a sledge hammer for the first time. Some of us have discovered talents we were previously were unaware of, but everyone has worked hard. In the picture above, you can see our entire team at one worksite.

Waking up early every morning after a long day of physical labor has not been easy, and many of us wander around the breakfast area trying to drum up some energy for the day. But God has given us strength each day.

God has put houses in front of us that are owned by people who simply cannot do the work on their own. Being the hands and feet of Jesus while in Houston has presented challenges to our team with all of us having different things on our mind and affecting our lives that is not related to Houston. But God has given us clear minds and able bodies to focus on and accomplish what has been placed before us. Looking back on our team that landed in Houston unsure of what the week ahead looked like, I never expected how God would use the people we are serving and the people we are serving with as an encouragement throughout the work day.

It is Friday. How did Friday get here so quickly? Tomorrow is our last day working for homeowners. Is this trip really coming to an end? I look forward to returning to Lancaster to share all the experiences that cannot be summed up in a blog post. Please continue to pray for our safety as we travel and as we work, but please pray for Samaritan’s Purse, the other volunteers, and the many people that are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Harvey.
