Journey Teams: Netherlands (3)

May 24, 2017

Today started off bright and early with wake up music courtesy of Josh and Caleb, which has become the norm during our time here in the Netherlands. After getting ready and spending time with God, we gathered together for a few minutes to share how God has been challenging us as a team. These moments have become some of my personal favorites as God is challenging each team member in different ways and it is a gift to be encouraged by fellow teammates.

After some team time and breakfast, we were back to our work projects – which many on the team love to do and want to finish. After some hard work, we took a break and headed to the market. For those of you from the Lancaster area, The market in Putten is very similar to Green Dragon. Many of us tried new foods, purchased some local items and some of the students were even brave enough to try herring – a well-known dish in the Netherlands.

After market and a quick lunch, we headed back to work to finish our projects. We worked on clearing brush, continued to clean and scrape the house for painting, removed poles from concrete, painted, finished assembling a trampoline and much more. The camp was beautiful when we arrived, but it has been exciting to watch it get even more so and to know that we are helping to prepare it for camps this summer.

After work we had dinner, which included this amazing sauce that goes great with everything. Following dinner, we had a quick team meeting and then dove into some evangelism training with Paul, a member of the De Herikon team. We were challenged to not just follow a method, but to get to know people and to share the gospel with them out of love for them and desiring them to know the hope we have. This was in preparation for the time we will spend in Amsterdam and I believe our team walked away feeling encouraged and more prepared!

We ended the night in true Netherlands form – watching a soccer game. Nothing like food, time together, and watching the Brussels get pumped about soccer!

As we head into tomorrow, please pray for the following:

  • The camp is trying to find someone that will either donate money or get a good playground set at a good price that we can put in. Please pray God provides.
  • Tomorrow will be a day of rest because it’s a national holiday. Pray for rest and rejuvenation as we are then headed into some full days.
  • Continue to pray for team unity as we continue to become more comfortable with one another.
