Mrs. Mary Yager

Office Location: 2nd floor in Academic Affairs Building

Educational Background: Mary graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Minor in Bible from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. She earned her MSW from Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois in Chicago. 

Teaching Interests: Mary enjoys introducing new students to the profession of social work through her Introduction to Social Work course; she enjoys helping students understand the political process through Social Welfare Policy; and is privileged to teach Diversity in the Cultural Environment. Over the past years she has taught Social Work Methods and Organizational Social Work. She also teaches Field Seminar and Internship courses that allow her to watch students apply what they have learned in practice settings. Mary also enjoys getting to know the larger student body by teaching Sociology for the Arts & Science department at LBC.

Experiences: Mary started her social work career as a counselor in an adolescent psychiatric facility working with teens suffering from mental illness, emotional issues and behavioral challenges. She worked as a counselor on a Christian Women’s Treatment facility where she was able to assist women in emotional healing after experiences of trauma. Mary spent 12 years working at Evangelical Child and Family Agency in Wheaton, Illinois in a wide range of duties including Foster Care Caseworker, Program Supervisor, & Legal Permanency Specialist. Mary worked as a licensing specialist for Lost & Found, a Christian Social Services agency in Wheatland Colorado specializing in work with youth sex offenders. For 5 years Mary practiced as a clinical social worker in a locked Therapeutic Residential Treatment Facility where she did individual, group and family therapy for youth who were involved with the criminal justice system. She taught for 9 years at Wheaton College as an adjunct professor of Social Work before joining the faculty of Lancaster Bible College as a full time faculty member in 2008.

Family Life:  Mary is married to Doug Yager. They have 2 children, Nathan and Luke. The family also hosts Korean international students and has a host daughter, Sooyeon Kang. The family is active in Grace Church, Lititz, and all of their children attend Lititz Christian School.
