Christina Helfrick

Dr. Christina Helfrick, Assistant Professor in the Master of Social Work Program, recently completed her doctoral journey at Millersville University, studying intervention research with the goal of building the social capital of homeless youth in school systems. She also earned a master’s degree from Shippensburg University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. A licensed social worker, Helfrick spent nearly a decade in practice as a school social worker. She has worked in the fields of mental health, foster care, homelessness and immigrant serving systems for 20 years and is the board president for the Pennsylvania Association of School Social Work Personnel. Helfrick continues to develop Champions for Teens, a homeless advocate program she created through her doctoral research, as she collaborates with researchers and community members to innovate programs locally and nationally.
