When you're ready to apply to a master's or doctoral program at Capital Seminary & Graduate School, we've made the process quick and convenient.

Application into one of Capital's doctoral degrees can be made at any time. Accepted students will begin their program in the fall semester.

Admission Requirements for Doctorates

  • Completion of the full application process as listed under the Application Process.
  • Applicants must submit a personal testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Admission will be limited to 12 to 18 applicants per cohort group.
  • Preferred applicants will be those engaged in a teaching ministry or non-profit leadership role or those applicants who show exceptional promise for such a role in the future.
  • Applicants must hold an earned and accredited master’s degree in an appropriately related field.
  • Applicants’ transcripts should reflect a background in biblical, theological, and ministry studies at either the bachelor’s or master’s level. Those applicants who have not completed course work in biblical, theological, and ministry studies may be required to take leveling work to prepare the applicant for the biblical and theological component of the program.
  • Applicants must take the MAT (Miller Analogies Test, www.milleranalogies.com) or GRE (Graduate Record Exam, www.ets.org/gre/general/register). The test scores may not be more than five years old at the time of application.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must attain a minimum test score of 600 on the paper-based TOEFL General Test (250 on the computer-based exam or 1000 for the Internet-based test) or an equivalent demonstration of the ability to read, write and perform academic research in standard English.
  • Applicants must obtain employer permission to enter the program.
  • PhD applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and DMin applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in previous master’s level work.
  • PhD in Leadership applicants must provide transcript evidence that they have taken a course in statistics at the undergraduate or graduate level. Those students lacking this admissions requirement may take CPS502 Research Statistics for the Social Sciences to meet this requirement.

As you prepare your application package for submission, we've provided the following checklist to assist you in tracking your application progress. After you’ve sent all the requested materials, your application will be reviewed for admission.

Admissions Checklist for Masters

  Complete the Application.
Among the things, you’ll need to provide on the application is:

  • Name, address, phone number, birth date, birthplace.
  • Church affiliation
  • Academic history

After we receive your application form, we will respond by email to confirm receipt of the application and to remind you of the other application pieces that are required.


  Submit $40 application fee.
Checks can be made payable to Lancaster Bible College. Please mail payment to: Capital Seminary & Graduate School, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. If you'd like to pay by credit card, please contact the Solution Center at 717.560.8254.


  Write an autobiographical statement.
Submit an autobiographical essay, of approximately 1,000 words, describing your salvation experience and ministry goals using these instructions. Please utilize this autobiographical essay to demonstrate your writing ability. This autobiographical essay should include the following:

  1. Explain Christ’s saving work in your life. Please share the details of your conversion experience, and use scripture to explain your experience.
  2. Explain how God has used people and circumstances in your life to grow your faith.
  3. Describe your current spiritual disciplines including evangelism, Bible study, prayer and ministry service.  
  4. Share your current employment situation, your future vocational goals, and why you have chosen to apply to Capital Seminary & Graduate School.
  5. In the last 5 years, other than the Bible, what author or book has most influenced your faith? Using APA or MLA to cite your source, please support your response with a quote from the book.

 Request References.
Ask two people (three if you are applying to the Consulting Resource Teacher Program) who are qualified to evaluate your ministry/work experience and ministry/work potential to complete a reference form on your behalf.


 Request Official Transcripts.
Please request transcripts from the institutions through which degrees have been awarded. These need to be sent to Capital Seminary & Graduate School directly from the degree granting institution(s). Transcripts in a sealed envelope should be mailed to: Capital Seminary & Graduate School, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.


 Complete Online Computer Proficiency Form
All master's students need to have a basic knowledge of computers and the internet in order to be successful in their classes. This form will help measure your computer proficiency. Feel free to contact us with any questions at 866.2758720 or graduate@lbc.edu.


 All International Applicants must demonstrate a satisfactory level of English proficiency.
This  can be done by taking the TOEFL exam at www.ETS.org/TOEFL. Make sure to add our school code: 2388. International applicants are required to score a minimum of 550 on the written version, or 213 on the computerized version, or 79 on the internet based version of the exam.


 Submit Teacher Certification Credentials
Only for Masters in Education candidates – required for those pursuing the Consulting Resource Teacher Program, optional for those pursuing a School Counseling Program) This can be mailed, faxed (717.560.8265) or emailed at graduate@lbc.edu.


 Personal Interview
Following receipt of the above items and upon approval of the Associate Dean, a personal interview will be arranged with a faculty member.
